UAE intercepts missiles in new attack on Abu Dhabi
The UAE's defence ministry said today that it has "intercepted and destroyed" two ballistic missiles fired towards the country, in another attack on the Mideast Gulf oil producer.
The two missiles were intercepted over the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, with the remnants falling "in separate areas around the emirate" with no fatalities, the ministry said.
Today's incident comes a week after the Houthi militant group in Yemen fired five missiles and several drones towards the UAE, which caused a fire at an oil storage centre operated by state-owned Adnoc in Abu Dhabi, killing three employees and injuring another six.
This is adding to geopolitical tensions that have pushed up oil prices, following civil unrest in Kazakhstan and as Russia and the US continue to fall out over Ukraine.
