Saudi Arabia flags supply risks after Houthi attacks
Saudi Arabia says it will take no responsibility for any supply shutdowns caused by attacks on its energy infrastructure by Houthi forces based in Yemen. Houthi forces have targeted facilities in Saudi Arabia, many operated by Saudi Aramco, with drones and missiles in the past 10 days. Riyadh blames Iran for arming the Houthi militias and says their targeting of its oil facilities will "undermine the security and sustainability of energy supplies to global markets", while also criticising what it regards as a lacklustre international response to the incidents. Saudi Arabia and the UAE hold much of the world's spare production capacity just as supplies are disrupted amid the Ukraine conflict. Missile attacks in 2019 on Saudi infrastructure briefly took 6mn b/d of supply out of action.
