Japanese trading house Itochu and Dutch biofuels producer GoodFuels are to work together on supplying biofuels as a marine fuel in Asia-Pacific, including Singapore and Japan.
Itochu and GoodFuels aim to start biofuel bunker deliveries in Singapore this year. GoodFuels will provide biofuels production expertise for used cooking oil, while Itochu will blend the biofuels into conventional marine fuel using tanks it leases.
GoodFuels has already started biofuel bunkering trials in Europe, aiming to help shipping firms reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
GoodFuels opened a Singapore office in February this year, its first office outside Europe, aiming to meet growing global biofuels demand in a key bunkering hub.
The companies' plans for Japan have not been discussed yet, as the partners want to develop their biofuels business in Singapore first, Itochu said.
