US natural gas infrastructure company Williams has entered into an agreement with an Appalachia producer to deliver certified gas as the company moves to bolster its low-carbon portfolio.

Williams announced a partnership today with PennEnergy to move gas from its 378 production wells in southwest Pennsylvania with certification from Project Canary.

Project Canary is a third-party certification company that uses emissions detection technology and environmental monitoring to affirm gas producing sites have met certain environmental, social and corporate governance standards.

Williams will use Sequent Energy Management, an acquisition the company made in March 2021, to build a marketing portfolio to sell the lower carbon emissions gas to utilities, LNG export facilities and other customers that desire certified gas.

The partnership with PennEnergy builds on Williams' strategy to gather, market and transport low-carbon gas from well-head to end user.

Earlier this year Williams partnered with Context Labs to develop an emissions tracking software that will provide verified emissions profiles and capture the progress of greenhouse gas mitigations across the natural gas value chain.

Williams has pledged to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
