Brazil's ministry of mines and energy has opened a consultation on the first auction for power generators to access transmission lines.
Generators argue that the current power trade model creates priorities for transmission access by regulated consumers, such as power distributors, with an unfair advantage over bilateral contract clients.
The new auction, Procedimento Competitivo por Margem (PCM), should take place in the first half of 2023.
The consultation on the guidelines for the auction will be open for comments on the ministry's website from 3 November to 2 December.
The ministry says that the goal of the competitive mechanism for transmission access is to connect generators to power grid locations with idle capacity.
