USW approves new contract with US Steel

The United Steelworkers (USW) have approved a new four-year contract with integrated steelmaker US Steel.

The union said the contract was "passed overwhelmingly," according to a text message sent today.

In a statement, US Steel said the passage covers 11,000 USW-represented employees at its US steelmaking, iron ore, and some of its tubular plants.

The agreement is the last to be signed by a large group of represented steelworkers this year, and will run through 1 September 2026.

The prior contract expired on 31 August and both the USW members and US Steel were working under the framework of the prior agreement.

Steelmakers Algoma, Cleveland-Cliffs, and Stelco all negotiated and signed new contracts with the USW this fall.
