Czech state-owned utility Cez has entered into a nuclear supply agreement with US firm Westinghouse for the supply of new fuel for the 2GW Dukovany nuclear power plant.

Westinghouse will provide nuclear fuel to all four 500MW units at the Dukovany power plant from 2024, with the agreement expected to last seven years.

Cez currently has about three years of nuclear fuel in storage for the power plant and intends to maintain this reserve after signing the contract, according to the firm.

The utility plans to modernise the 2GW Temelin nuclear plant after also entering into a nuclear supply agreement with Westinghouse and French Framatome for both 1GW units.

Nuclear generation is anticipated to increase in the Czech Republic as French utility EdF, Westinghouse and developer Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power submitted separate bids to build a new nuclear unit, up to 1.2GW in capacity. And Cez has also selected locations for the installation of its second and third small modular reactors.
