French building conglomerate Vinci's Eurovia subsidiary is building a new 16,000t capacity bitumen terminal in Dunkirk on France's northeast coast, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2024.
The new facility will considerably raise the firm's ability and flexibility to import cargoes into the French and neighbouring markets, Eurovia having in 2020 begun operating a new 15,000t bitumen terminal at Lavera on the French Mediterranean coast. Eurovia unit Asphaltex regularly imports Mediterranean bitumen cargoes into Lavera, with similar flows from Mediterranean and northwest European supply sources anticipated into Dunkirk once that facility is fully operational.
Hamburg-based bitumen production and supply firm Nordbit started operating a new Dunkirk bitumen terminal with storage and blending facilities at French terminals firm Rubis' Dunkirk oil products storage site in 2019. The firm was understood by market participants to have raised that terminal's capacity in 2021 to around 12,000t with the addition of a new tank.
