Azerbaijan confirmed today that it will host the Cop 29 UN climate summit, set for 11-22 November 2024.
There is "overall consensus on the candidacy of Azerbaijan to host Cop 29," a statement from the country said today.
The host country of the annual Cop climate summits rotates between the five UN regions — Africa, Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Western Europe and others. Regional group members must then decide unanimously which country will offer to host the conference. Cop 30 is due to take place in Belem, Brazil, in 2025.
Azerbaijan, an oil and gas producer, is a member of the Opec+ alliance.
