Independent carbon crediting programmes Verra and Gold Standard have joined forces with Singapore's National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) to develop a carbon playbook for credits under the Paris Agreement.
The three bodies have agreed to collaborate in helping countries leverage and utilise carbon crediting programs towards their own Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — climate pledges.
The playbook seeks to outline streamlined standard operating procedures that countries can use to navigate the existing crediting programs to achieve their NDCs. Verra, Gold Standard and the NCCS hope that by creating such standardised processes they will "save countries significant time, money and additional resources in the development of their own programmes."
The three organisations aim to include feedback from other countries and independent crediting programs in the creation of the playbook, which should be finalised by mid-2024.
