Aerospace manufacturer GKN Aerospace is expanding its aero-engine manufacturing facility in Trollhattan, Sweden by 5,000m² to support demand from aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing.
The expansion is scheduled to be operational in 2026 and will include advanced automation, robotics and digital technologies.
The global backlog of aero-engine orders, intrinsically tied to order backlogs on commercial aircraft, is up to nine years, which is why GKN is investing in new capacity and increased efficiency to serve the global aerospace ramp-up.
GKN supplies several engine programmes including Pratt & Whitney's geared turbofan, GE Aerospace's GEnx and Rolls-Royce's Trent XWB range. Specific parts made by GKN include low-pressure compressor vanes — made from titanium and aluminium — turbine, compressor and fan statics, cases and frames.
