Kazakhstan has extended its ban on exports of semi-finished steel for another six months effective from 25 July.
This is an extension of a measure initially introduced on 11 November, which imposed a restriction on the exports of semi-finished products made of iron and non-ferrous steel.
The export of products under the HS codes 7206 and 7207 will be restricted once more, while HS code 7203 is exempt.
The government ran a public consultation before taking this decision, which terminated on 11 June.
The ban aims to stimulate the production of products of medium and upper processing with high added value, a document published by the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan reads.
Kazakhstan exported a total of 360,000t of semi-finished steel under the HS headings 7206 and 7207 last year, according to GTT trade data, which fell to almost no volumes exported in the first five months of 2025.
