Brazil’s Mato Grosso raises July corn output costs

Brazil's central-western Mato Grosso state raised estimates for the 2025-26 corn crop production costs in July on higher costs of seeds and fertilizers.

The operational costs' outlook for the 2025-26 grain crop using advanced technologies — which includes inputs, machinery and labor, among others — in Mato Grosso reached nearly R3,280/hectare ($604/ha) in July, up by 1.4pc from the R3,235/ha estimated in June, according to the state's institute of agricultural economics Imea.

Fertilizer cost estimates rose by 2.4pc to R1,394/ha from June. Estimated seed costs rose by 1.1pc to nearly R766/ha. Pesticide cost estimates edged up by 0.2pc to around R735/ha.

Soybeans

Operational cost estimates for the 2025-26 soybean crop rose by 0.9pc to R 4,183/ha from the R 4,145/ha estimated in June, according to Imea.

Pesticide costs rose by 1.4pc to R1,213/ha in July. Fertilizer cost estimates increased by 1.3pc to R1,885/ha.

Seed costs are estimated at around R608/ha, down by 0.4pc from June's estimate.

Cotton

Output cost estimates for the 2025-26 cotton crop rose by 0.6pc to R10,707/ha in July from the previous month.

Pesticide cost estimates totaled R4,621/ha in July, up by 0.7pc from the previous month.

Fertilizer cost estimates increased by 0.4pc to around R3,873/ha from R3,859/ha in the previous month. Seed costs rose by 1.6pc, reaching R1,029/ha.

Estimated costs in June were calculated based on an average exchange rate of R5.7586/$1 for soybeans, R5.7051/$1 for corn and R5.7463/$1 for cotton.
