US-based fuel cell developer Amogy has partnered with Singapore's public sector Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) to collaborate on developing ammonia-to-power systems in Singapore, the firms announced today.
Amogy and A*Star plan to demonstrate Amogy's ammonia-to-power systems on Singapore's Jurong Island. The firms will collaborate to develop advanced ammonia-cracking catalyst technologies and digital tools. This partnership aims to support the decarbonisation of Singapore's data centre industry and explore Amogy's clean ammonia technologies in commercial applications.
Workforce training for the system integration and scale-up of Amogy's technology will also be included in the project.
A*Star will provide its expertise in safety standards and assess costs and sustainability to help scale ammonia-to-power systems effectively in Singapore.
"This collaboration marks an important step towards advancing decarbonisation in critical sectors such as data centres and heavy industry", said Amogy chief executive Seonghoon Woo.
Amogy's ammonia-to-power technology uses catalyst materials to effectively crack ammonia into hydrogen, which is then converted into electricity by hydrogen fuel cells or engines. Amogy previously successfully tested this technology on clean ammonia-powered tugboats in the US.
