European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has stopped negotiations with Spanish trade unions UGT, CGT and UTIL but is continuing talks with unions not linked to an indefinite strike at its Spanish operations that started in late August, the company has told Argus.

Airbus today ended negotiations at the Sima mediation service with UGT, CGT and UTIL after they rejected Airbus' condition that they pause or suspend their strike during the talks.

Airbus will continue Sima-mediated negotiations with unions CCOO, SIPA and ATP-SAE, which did not support the strike. Talks will resume on 3 September, Airbus said. Airbus will present a new proposal to the unions tomorrow, CGT wrote on social media platform X today, but Airbus did not confirm this.

Around 1,000 assembly members of 15,000 Airbus employees in Spain voted to continue the strike on 31 August, Airbus said. On 1 September, CGT wrote on X that more than 81pc of workers rejected suspending the strike.

Airbus workers in Spain started an indefinite strike on 25 August, following earlier industrial action in July.
