Mexico's economy grew by 3.2pc in the third quarter of 2026, led by sustained expansion in the agriculture and industrial sectors.

The result, reported Friday by statistics agency Inegi, marks the strongest performance since the third quarter of 2023 as gross domestic product (GDP) accelerated from an annual 2.1pc in the second quarter and 0.2pc in the first quarter.

The primary sector, which includes agriculture, fishing, mining and hydrocarbon extraction, expanded by 2.2pc in the third quarter after growing by an upwardly revised 4.8pc in the second quarter.

Industrial sector output, including manufacturing, construction and mining, grew by 3pc after expanding by a revised 1.1pc in the second quarter.

The services sector expanded by 3.4pc from July to September, up from 2.3pc in the second quarter.

The third quarter result was in line with analyst estimates. Mexican bank Banamex said the result demonstrates "notable recovery" throughout the second and third quarters, driven by expanding exports that boosted wholesale trade and improved export-oriented manufacturing.

Public investment, private investment, and consumer spending also contributed to this recovery, said Banamex, and while consumption slowed slightly, it remained above last year's levels due to a partial recovery in formal employment and substantial wage increases.

Mexican bank Banorte said Friday's result supported its full-year 2026 GDP growth estimate of 1.9pc.
