Yemen LNG output unaffected by explosion

London, 9 December (Argus) — Production from Yemen LNG's 6.7mn t/yr Balhaf plant was unaffected by an explosion at the facility on 6 December.

“There were no casualties and the explosion caused only slight damage to non-essential equipment. Yemen LNG has initiated an investigation as to the cause of the explosion,” the company said.

Four tankers were scheduled to arrive at Balhaf over the next few weeks, according to shipping data. The 153,500m³ Provalys was due on 11 December and the 151,800m³ K Mugungwha was due on 15 December. Meanwhile, The 145,700m³ STX Kolt and 135,256m³ K Freesia were due on 23 December and 27 December, respectively.

The 145,000m³ Hyundai Ecopia and 154,200m³ GDF Suez Point Fortin left Balhaf in the last few days, and were heading east across the Indian Ocean. They had previously delivered LNG to South Korea.

Yemen LNG is a joint-venture and comprises Total (39.62pc), US firm Hunt Oil (17.22pc), Yemen Gas (16.73pc), South Korean firms SK Innovation (9.55pc), Kogas (6pc) and Hyundai (5.88pc), and domestic social security group GASSP (5pc).
