The 35-day shutdown at the 3.7mn t/yr Darwin LNG plant in Australia's Northern Territory has been successfully completed, according to domestic independent Santos that has an 11.5pc stake in the project.

The shutdown at the Bayu-Undan gas field in the Timor Sea and Darwin LNG was completed at the end of the July-September quarter with production restarting in early October, Santos said.

There were nine LNG cargoes shipped during the July-September quarter, Santos said. Work progressed on the Bayu-Undan phase three project during the quarter, with the first two subsea development wells drilled and casing installed. The project is more than 60pc complete and on track for first gas in 2015, it said.

Scheduled maintenance occurs every two years at Darwin LNG, with the last one being in 2012 and prior to that in 2010. Darwin LNG is operated by ConocoPhillips, with other shareholders including Italian oil firm Eni, Japanese upstream group Inpex and Japanese utilities Tokyo Electric Power and Tokyo Gas.
