Sasol entered into an agreement with industrial gas supplier Matheson to supply oxygen and nitrogen to Sasol's previously announced 1.5mn t/yr ethane cracker and derivatives project in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Matheson's air separation unit (ASU) will supply both Sasol and other existing customers, the company said yesterday.
Matheson's ASU complex is scheduled for completion in 2016, while Sasol's cracker and derivatives complex is scheduled for startup in 2018.
Around 90pc of the cracker's ethylene output will be converted into specialty chemicals.
