Ineos' No. 1 olefins unit at its Chocolate Bayou, Texas plant experienced an upset yesterday due to an acetylene reactor trip that resulted in flaring, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Operators reduced rates to minimize the flaring and restarted the acetylene reactor. The event ended this morning, according to the report.
The incident resulted in flaring of ethylene, propylene, ethane, and propane. Ineos can produce up to 4.3bn lb/yr of ethylene at Chocolate Bayou.
