Scandinavian airline SAS will take measures to counter the effect on its business of the coronavirus, including seeking to reduce part of its short-haul network capacity over the next few months.
It has withdrawn its fiscal year 2020 earnings guidance because of the uncertainty, just a week after it said that the effect on its operations of flight cancellations to China would be "relatively low".
The airline has suspended all flights to and from Milan, Bologna, Turin and Venice between 4 and 16 March, after Denmark's foreign ministry recommended to avoid all unnecessary travel to the region. It will suspend all flights to Hong Kong from 5 March onwards, having already halted all operations to mainland China.
It said measures to be taken could include temporary lay-offs.
A series of European carriers announced yesterday the reduction of capacity on routes to Italy and several other European short-haul routes on lower demand concerns.
