Not-for-profit organisation One Acre Fund has issued a tender to buy urea and 10-20-10+6.5S (compound D) for the 2021 Zambian application season.

The tender requests 1,138t of urea and 1,206t of compound D NPK in time for distribution starting on 1 October this year. This means the product is required to be in-country by the end of August at the latest.

The tender closes on 10 July. Validity of offers is required to 24 July for likely award by 30 July.

One Acre is looking for suppliers to store part of the fertilizer in local warehouses and so is only considering suppliers with local operations and warehouse space within Zambia.

The Zambian fertilizer market is estimated at 300,000 t/yr, according to Argus Consulting, with urea accounting for 45pc of imports and NPK imports at around 90,000t. Maize accounts for nearly 80pc of fertilizer consumption.
