Hungary extends renewable project deadlines

Hungarian energy market regulator Mekh has extended the commissioning deadlines for certain smaller projects under construction in the country's renewable support scheme because of potential delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new deadline is the end of 2020 for those projects that were originally required to start production or commercial operations between 11 March and 30 September 2020. And those projects required to launch production or commercial operation between 1 October 2020 and 30 June 2021 received a three-month extension.

The extension only applies to ongoing developments entitled to receive future feed-in tariffs or green premiums without a tender. Developers do not need to apply for the extension, as it is granted automatically to all affected projects.

Mekh said it decided to lengthen the deadlines as the pandemic "also put the implementation of renewable projects in a difficult situation".
