German renewables developer Baywa RE has started building two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a combined capacity of 30MW in France, eyeing a launch at the beginning of next year.

Construction of one plant started in June, and the other in August, Baywa RE said.

The Blueberry and Blueberry Central solar parks are on a former military base at La Martinerie in central France.

The firm is considering adding a third solar park — Greenberry, with 36MW of capacity — at the same site and construction could begin in 2022.

Baywa RE has built over 100MW of ground-mounted solar parks in France and has a portfolio of over 200MW of solar PV in the country, it said.

In July, the firm entered Poland's solar PV market when it started building a 64.6MW plant — the largest in the country.
