Fluxys Belgium consults on new VIP with THE
Gas system operator Fluxys Belgium today launched a consultation on the creation of a virtual interconnection point (VIP) with Germany's new market area, Trading Hub Europe (THE).
The Belgian system operator, together with German counterparts Gascade, Open Grid Europe, Fluxys Tenp and Thyssengas, plans to create a VIP between the high-calorie ZTP and THE that will combine the former Eynatten 1 and 2 interconnection points.
The provisional launch is set for 1 October, when the existing German NCG and Gaspool market areas are scheduled to be merged. Fluxys Belgium will confirm the actual implementation date at least four weeks in advance.
Firm and interruptible capacity will be offered in both directions on the THE-ZTP VIP, in amounts equalling the sum of offered capacity on the underlying interconnection points. But backhaul services will only be maintained for existing contracts if any, the system operator said.
Short-haul services and regulated tariffs will be unaffected by the VIP's creation, Fluxys Belgium said.
Germany's system operators said last week that they will offer no capacity at future THE VIPs in the July annual auction, with marketing at the existing VIPs and interconnection points in NCG and Gaspool to continue initially "on a temporary basis".
Interested participants have until 28 May to submit feedback on Fluxys Belgium's consultation.
