The Moroccan government has banned the arrival of flights from the UK as Covid-19 cases in the latter continue to climb.

The suspension took effect today, for an indeterminate period.

The Moroccan government at the same time banned direct flights from the Netherlands and Germany. Flight tracking data show that at least three flights to Casablanca airport due for arrival today have been cancelled, including Royal Air Maroc flights from London Gatwick, Frankfurt, and London Heathrow.

Covid-19 cases in the UK have been rising rapidly in recent weeks, with the country now owning one of the highest infection rates in Europe. Daily cases were above 49,000 yesterday, a rise of more than 6,000 compared with a week earlier.
