Transportation and logistics company Ryder System said it is on track to beat its 2024 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission goals and is continuing to evaluate its renewable energy procurement options.

The company has lowered GHG emissions in scopes 1, 2 and 3, falling by 31pc from 11mn metric tonnes (t) in 2020 to roughly 7.5mn t last year.

Ryder reduced fleet emissions by 10pc. The company is investing up to $50mn between 2020 and 2025 in startups that help advance and automate the industry, including autonomous, alternative fuel and zero-emissions vehicles.

The use of biodiesel has doubled for Ryder's fleet, sitting at 12mn USG in 2021, up from 6mn USG the year prior.

The company plans for a new 10-year sustainability plan beginning in 2024, but has not yet said what methods it will use for GHG reduction in the new plan.
