Lithuanian transmission system operator (TSO) Amber Grid has repaired a damaged pipeline in the Pasvalys district, following a fire on 13 January.

The fire broke out at one of two parallel gas pipelines running towards Latvia in Amber Grid's transmission system, and lasted for four hours.

Supply to the damaged pipeline was immediately cut off. Supply to consumers in north Lithuania was ensured through the parallel undamaged pipeline, and supply to Latvia will be restored today, the TSO said. Full capacity was available from 13:30 local time, according to a Remit notice published on GET Baltic's platform.

Amber Grid carried out pre-planned maintenance at the pipeline last week away from the site of the incident. This was routine and ongoing maintenance, Amber Grid said, and whether it contributed to the incident will be determined in an investigation by law enforcement authorities and Amber Grid specialists.

Exports from Lithuania to Latvia at the Kiemenai interconnection point dropped to 45 GWh/d on Friday-Sunday, from 67 GWh/d over the rest of January.
