More NorthAm auto plants shut down

North American automakers continued to cut production in response to the lack of semiconductors needed to complete vehicles.

General Motors (GM) is closing its Lansing Delta Township crossover plant and Wentzville, Missouri, midsize pickup truck plant for the week of 20 September, the company said. During that week, GM will also take down its Chevrolet Blazer production in its Ramos, Mexico plant.

The company's Lansing Grand River sedan plant will be taken down for two weeks beginning 13 September.

GM is also cutting production at its Orion plant in Michigan for the two weeks starting 13 September as it continues to grapple with battery pack shortages related to its Bolt electric vehicle safety recall.

Production will restart on 13 September at GM's full-size pickup truck plants in Ft Wayne, Indiana, and Silao, Mexico, after cutting production from 6 September through 12 September.

Stellantis is cutting production by an additional two weeks beginning 13 September at its Belvidere, Illinois SUV plant and Windsor, Ontario minivan plant.

Hyundai Motor's Alabama plant suspended production on 3 September and 7 September, while Kia cut production at its Georgia plant on 7 September.
