NorthAm automakers plan to take holidays off

North American automakers are planning to take traditional holiday shutdowns, less than six months after GM and other carmakers scrapped their summer closures.

Automakers Daimler, General Motors (GM), Kia Motors, Subaru, and Toyota Motors confirmed they will take some holiday-related shutdowns.

In the summer, some automakers like Ford and GM tried to work through their traditional seasonal shutdowns to increase supply amid semiconductor-related plant shutdowns and vehicle shortages.

In the latest estimate, semiconductor and other supply issues could reduce overall automotive production in North America by more than 3mn vehicles in 2021, according to AutoForecast Solutions.
