FBI visits Russia's Evraz North America locations

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was onsite at Evraz North America's facilities last week, but steelmaking operations and production schedules for the Russian-owned company have not been affected.

A spokesperson for the company told Argus that the business is continuing to operate as normal following the FBI visits on 10 July.

Evraz North America is producer of engineered steel products for rail, energy and industrial end markets in the US and Canada with locations in Chicago, Illinois; Portland, Oregon; and Pueblo, Colorado; as well as Saskatchewan and Alberta in Canada.

The spokesperson said that officials cooperated fully with all requests made at the time of the visit and will continue to be cooperative with the FBI.

Evraz North America was unable to provide details over the context of the visit, noting that it cannot comment on any pending or ongoing legal matters.

The FBI declined Argus' request for comment.

Evraz North America, which is owned by Russian steelmaker Evraz, announced in August 2022 that it would try to divest its North American operations.

The company also operates a ferrous and non-ferrous recycling division with 13 facilities in Western Canada and three facilities in the US, including North Dakota and Colorado.
