USAR, PolarStar to produce Neo Magnets in US

USA Rare Earth (USAR) signed an agreement with Minnesota-based PolarStar Magnetics to produce US-made neodymium magnets for critical industries and everyday consumer products.

PolarStar manufactures programmable magnets designed for strong magnetic attachment on thin ferrous surfaces and supplies Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement-compliant products for aerospace projects.

Leveraging USAR's facility, PolarStar will participate in early testing of magnets, advancing its prototype development. The two companies are now moving toward a detailed multi-year supply agreement.

USAR commissioned its Innovation Lab in Stillwater in the first quarter of 2025 and expects to begin prototyping to customers in the second.

The sintered neo magnet facility in Stillwater is set to begin commercial production in the first half of 2026, with a capacity of 5,000 metric toone (t)/yr. It will serve key industries including defense, robotics, electric vehicles, wind energy, appliances, and cordless tools.

USAR also controls mining rights to the Round Top Mountain rare earth and critical minerals deposit in West Texas, gaining potential access to 15 of the 17 rare earth elements as well as other critical minerals such as gallium and lithium.
