Shell flared olefins from its its OP-3 ethylene unit in Deer Park, Texas Friday evening after temperature changes resulted in the production of off-specification material, according to an emissions report to state regulators.
The company flared ethylene and butadiene, among other gasses, which last until the following day. A series of heavy thunderstorms dumped between 3-4 inches of rainfall in the region Friday night.
Shell can produce nearly 2bn lb/yr of ethylene in Deer Park.
