The US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) began today its third solicitation for ferro-chrome in 2018.

The DLA, the procurement branch of the defense department, offered a lot of each low-carbon and high-carbon ferro-chrome today with bids due by Wednesday.

The low-carbon tender totals 581,644lbs by net weight, doubling the previous offering from mid-March. The low-carbon alloy lot is located at the Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, facility and contains 66.08pc chrome and 0.15pc carbon by content.

The agency also opened a tender for 1,000 short tons (st) of domestic origin high-carbon ferro-chrome from its Hammond, Indiana, facility. The high-carbon alloy lot contains 64.38pc chrome and 6.46pc carbon, down by less than 1pc from the previous March offering, despite being the same net weight.

Excluding this current tender, The DLA held solicitations for ferro-chrome in January and February and is on track for nine total tenders of ferro-chrome in 2018, which is three short of last year's total.
