Superior Aluminum Alloys to add furnace

Superior Aluminum Alloys will expand secondary aluminum alloy production by 25pc at its New Haven, Indiana, secondary smelting facility.

Superior has applied for a $1.1mn tax abatement package related to $13mn in proposed upgrades at New Haven. Superior plans to add a fifth reverberatory furnace, according to documents filed with the New Haven City Council.

The company listed its annual alloy production at 260mn lbs (117,934t) in 2017.

Superior plans to purchase the new furnace in September 2018 and finish installation before the end of 2019.

Superior is a subsidiary of Steel Dynamics-owned recycler OmniSource.
