KGHM partly suspends operations at Polish copper mine

Polish state-owned metals producer KGHM has temporarily shut down operations at part of its Rudna copper mine in the west of Poland following a rock mass movement incident.

The mass movement occurred at the G-2 section of the Rudna mine in Polkowice on 29 January at 12:53 GMT. All miners have been accounted for and there is currently no reported loss of life.

KGHM said operations are temporarily suspended at G-2 but work at the other sections are unaffected. The company did not provide a timeframe for the closure.

The incident may have a temporary impact on production, but in annual terms the assumed level of production is set to remain unchanged, a company spokesperson said. Copper ore output at the Rudna mine was 195,300t in 2017, while KGHM produced a total of 656,400t of payable copper that year.
