China's Dongguan Juzhengyuan has achieved on-specification production of polypropylene (PP) from a new 600,000 t/yr unit following test runs.
PP production rates are unlikely to be increased before the start-up of an upstream 600,000 t/yr propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit at the same site in south China's Dongguan city in Guangzhou province during this year's fourth quarter. Juzhengyuan will need to buy feedstock propylene to sustain PP production in the interim. Juzhengyuan's PDH start-up could even be delayed into early 2020, traders said, potentially extending the amount of time the company needs to buy propylene.
The PDH unit is using Lummus-Catofin technology, while the PP unit uses Unipol technology.
