Chinese producer Xinjiang Zhongtai plans to start trial runs at the end of October at its 1.2mn t/yr purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Korla city.

Construction work of the 4.65bn yuan ($655mn) project, the largest PTA unit to date in west China, aims to be finished before the end of this month.

Xinjiang Zhongtai initially signed a construction contract with China Kunlun Contracting and Engineering in 2013 and targeted a start-up of the PTA plant in 2015. But oversupply of the fiber intermediate and weak economics delayed its construction several times.

Xinjiang Zhongtai is a state-owned company of the Xinjiang government focusing on polyvinyl chloride and caustic soda production.
