Malaysia's state-owned Petronas is expected to be commercially ready with polymers output from its Pengerang complex by next year's first quarter.

It could even emerge in the spot polymer market as early as January with limited volumes moved within southeast Asia.

Pengerang is a joint venture between Petronas and Saudi Arabia's state-owned Saudi Aramco. It can produce 750,000 t/yr of polyethylene and 900,000 t/yr of polypropylene.

Southeast Asia is seeing significant polymer expansions this and next year, with new production capacity in neighbouring Indonesia and Vietnam.
