Luxembourg-based steel producer and mining firm ArcelorMittal has postponed the restart of its Krakow blast furnace in Poland because of uncertainty caused by the coronavirus.
The furnace, which was shut in November last year, was planned to restart in mid-March given a firming steel market.
But ArcelorMittal said today the restart will be indefinitely postponed as a number of its customers are limiting orders or shutting their facilities because of the coronavirus.
Argus' headline northwest Europe HRC index fell by €11/t yesterday to €471.25/t ex-works, taking the monthly average to €482/t.
ArcelorMittal said it stands by its plan to restart the furnace as soon as "normalcy is restored".
