US-based packaging company Berry Global Group has signed an agreement to buy circular polymers made from chemical recycling from Austria-based petrochemicals producer Borealis.

Berry Global will offtake Borealis' first circular polypropylene, produced using exclusively chemically-recycled resins.

"The package will be manufactured at one of Berry's existing European manufacturing facilities and will launch in the upcoming quarter," the company said. No details were given on the amount of chemically recycled polypropylene involved.

Berry Global aims to access 272,155t of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content by 2025.

"Continually increasing the demand for these processes is a critical component in the economics of achieving a circular economy," it said.
