Nova Chemical preemptively shut down its Geismar, Louisiana, olefins plant on 28 August, ahead of the landfall of Hurricane Ida yesterday.
The site is home to a 880,000 metric tonne (t)/yr merchant ethane-propane cracker. The plant also produces polymer grade propylene and other co-products.
Power in the area is reported to be out.
