No major damage at Nucor DRI plant from Hurricane

Steelmaker Nucor said its electric arc furnace (EAF) direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Louisiana did not sustain any major damage from Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in the state yesterday.

The company said it preemptively closed the 2.5mn metric tonne (t) (2.76mn short ton)/yr DRI in advance of the storm.

Nucor said it expects to resume operations at the plant in the coming days when it is safe to do so.
