An explosion injured five people at Westlake Chemical's Sulphur, Louisiana, petrochemical complex.
The blast occurred around 12am ET at the 680,000 metric tonne/yr Petro 2 ethane cracker, the company said today. The cracker was off line and undergoing a planned maintenance turnaround at the time of the explosion.
The injured were contract workers and were transferred to area hospitals for treatment.
Westlake said there was no off-site impact and there has been no fire as a result of the accident.
