An explosion occurred at Turkish re-roller Tezcan's Kocaeli factory at around midnight local time last night, damaging one of the company's three galvanizing lines and injuring workers.
Tezcan's engineers were carrying out maintenance to the zinc pool of the galvanizing line when the explosion occurred, as traces of water touched the metal and reacted.
It is too early to assess the damage, but at present it is thought to be localised to the one line: as Tezcan's three galvanizing lines are of 350,000 t/yr capacity, around one third of its galvanizing capacity will have been affected.
The accident put 11 workers in hospital, with two in a critical condition.
