Fujairah bunker ops remain disrupted after flood

Bunker fuel deliveries in the UAE's Fujairah, the world's third largest bunker centre, remain disrupted as a result of heavy rainfall that caused widespread floods in the port area.

Bunker barges have resumed deliveries in the anchorage area outside the port, but loading terminals are affected by flooding and remain closed.

Major suppliers have suspended giving quotes today to assess the damage caused to the bunker infrastructure.

"Some said they may be able to offer after 10 August, but at this point it is hard to say when barges can load from the terminals," a Fujairah bunker trader said.

Suppliers are anxious for loadings to resume as soon as possible before barges run out of fuel to supply vessels in the anchorage. They expect the delays to cause a big backlog, which can take a week to clear.

"At the moment, the flooded water is being pumped out from our terminal and this can take a while", a local supplier said.

Fujairah bunker prices rose against Singapore values as a result of the disruption. The 0.5pc marine fuel price in Fujairah was assessed at a premium of over $20/t on 28 July from $9.86/t on 27 July.
