Electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Nucor kept its plate prices flat late last week.

The company is offering discrete plate at $1,570/short ton (st) ex-works and has opened up its July order books, according to a 25 May letter sent to its customers.

The announcement comes as US hot rolled coil (HRC) pricing has fallen by 18pc to $989/st since hitting a peak of $1,200/st in early April.

The Argus US plate ex-works assessment has been flat at $1,570/st since 25 April.
