Methanol supplier OCI Global said today it has bunkered the first methanol-fuelled container ship with its OCI HyFuels ISCC certified green methanol.
The operation was a collaboration with several partners including Danish shipping firm Maersk, which signed a biomethanol supply agreement with OCI in June.
The container vessel will leave Ulsan, South Korea, for Copenhagen, Denmark, and will refuel with OCI Hyfuels' green methanol in Singapore, Egypt and Rotterdam on the way, OCI said.
This bunkering operation places "OCI as the first commercial bunker operator of green methanol at a global scale," the company said. OCI Hyfuels produces and supplies several types of renewable methanol, as well as ethanol and bio-MTBE.
