US steel production rose by 1.2pc in the week ended 9 November as higher Midwestern and southern production led increases.
- Output rose to 1.65mn short tons (st) in the latest week from 1.63mn st the week prior, while the utilization rate rose by nearly 1 percentage point to 74.2pc.
- Production was 2.3pc lower than the 1.69mn st produced in the same week a year prior, when the utilization rate was 73.4pc.
- Year-to-date production of 75.76mn st is down from the 77.36mn st in the same period the year prior.
- The year-to-date utilization rate was 76pc, little changed from a year earlier.
- Regionally, production increased in the Great Lakes, Midwest, south, and west, while production fell in the northeast.
