State regulators have issued a variance to allow Citgo's 425,000 b/d refinery in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to load reformate from a fourth dock while its xylenes unit is shut.
The company requested the variance back in October, according to the report, and already loads reformate from other docks. "The Xylene unit is currently shut down temporarily and could potentially be shut down again during the requested variance period due to turnaround activities, other maintenance activities, or market conditions," the request stated.
On 9 December Louisiana's Department of Environmental Quality granted the request through May 31. The request to load more reformate comes as MX extraction economics remain weak. Spot MX's conventional gasoline blend value averaged a 15.71¢/USG premium to spot MX prices thus far in December.
